Video Critics Tuesday

Image
Today was video critics. Each person has about 30 mins to talk and go through their portfolio. I spoke to Tony Snow (freelancer) and Elise Smidt (BBDO Switzerland). At the beginning, I was really really nervous about it. Elise was the first person I spoke to and she told me that I was the first person in video critics to use Behance as a portfolio. I don't know if that is a good thing or not. But still, I introduced myself as a junior art director looking for a copywriter to land a placement. 30 minutes of waiting for a bus seem like a long time. But 30 mins for a video critic was definitely not enough. Very unfortunately, we only had time for 3 or 4 projects. But from what I gathered is that in general:  Elise said that 'People in the UK like to hire personality. A portfolio with personality is definitely more interesting. Try and incorporate some of yourself into it.' Perhaps my Behance portfolio feels a little too cold at the moment? I only have my work and nothing about...

Ogilvy Singapore

Yesterday, the resume was done and today, it is submitted. A few of my friends who did a placement at Ogilvy Singapore said that it was a company with great mentors. They have a lot of good stuff on their website and mentors who are willing to help. While working on the resume, I was struggling to find a style, layout and everything. But I don't think it is something to be very sad about. Winning or not is one thing, but more importantly, I enjoyed the whole process and the collaboration with my partners. As of now, I have applied to about 4 companies: BBH The Labs, Ogilvy Singapore, Cry Havoc Leeds and Widen + Kennedy London. I honestly don't have much prefe...

Wieden + Kennedy LDN

Is no news sad news? It's been a month since BBH Labs got back to me. While I was not expecting much, a tiny bit of me was expecting something. The last email I received from them was that 'if you are shortlisted, you'll hear from us soon. Good Luck!' But I have never heard from them since Mar 14. I guess lady luck was not shining on me then...  Still, I took it with a pinch of salt. This Easter, I signed up for Young Creative Council. I saw a lot of creative individuals, and even Erika who gave us a talk from last time. I even saw some of our classmates' profile. I didn't think Eliza would be actively involved in this. Previously when we were working together on D&AD, she seems a bit uncertain. But now I think I might want to try and ask if she'll like for us to look for jobs together as a creative team. I just dropped Wieden + Kennedy a link to my portfolio too. I've spend this Easter break adding more stuff to my portfolio and I'm happy at h...
